Parents and voters across Seattle have spoken, they want accountability and they support the recall of President Rankin
Hundreds of parents and voters have joined our campaign for accountability.
This is just some of what they had to say:
Accountability and Failed Leadership:
“[I support this recall] because our children and our school communities deserve a leader who is accountable and responsive”
“Job negligence”
“Budget malfeasance, oversight dereliction of duties, lack of performance in the school system, minimal engagement of constituents, persistent gaslighting”
“The board is not overseeing district operations and finance.”
“Removing committees removes public oversight.”
“The school board, under Rankin, has failed to seek equitable propositions to manage budget shortfalls. Current proposals adversely affect a far greater proportion of highly vulnerable students than other students; meanwhile families of special needs”
“[President Rankin] should be held accountable, just like other professionals, who are held responsible for the outcome of their decisions and management as it relates to budget.
Lack of transparency and community engagement:
“I agree that these decisions were made without community engagement and transparency. The school board showed that they did not know the communities and schools they were considering in that they were closing the only deaf/hard of hearing school, medical fragile programs, language schools etc. It is clear that the board is not in touch with the schools and communities they are meant to represent.”
“Because the job of the school board is to listen to the community and be THEIR voice to the school district, and to provide oversight and accountability to ensure the school district runs well and does their jobs. Under Rankin and SOFG the board has actively rejected both of those duties.”
“Because families—and all citizens in Seattle—need a voice in directing the future of SPS and our current board is not allowing that.”
“I want elected representatives that will listen to constituents and take steps to better serve the people.”
Opposition to School Closures:
“Since the beginning of school closures in 2020, Liza Rankin has aided and abetted the undermining of Seattle's public schools. Her performative focus on centering some students has hurt all students, including those she claims to be helping.”
“This whole process has been cruelly and unnecessarily chaotic and the best interests of the children have not been foregrounded in this process.”
“Closing our schools is not the answer”
